About Me
Textile Designer Specialising in Print
Hi I'm Emily, and I specialise in printed textile design. Throughout my designs I playfully explore a balance of hand-printing techniques, and digital drawing and colouration. Rich texture has always been a priority within my work. The unpredicatability of hand-printing is something that has always excited me, and I love that the imperfections show evidence of the person behind the design. I have taken a maximalist approach to most of my collections, exploring the relationship between individuality and commerciality.
Skills
Having specialised in printed textile design, I am confident interpreting hand-drawn and digital motifs into seamless repeat patterns using Adobe Photoshop. I have completed masterclasses to diversify my technical skills and understanding of other specialisms, in particular, designing jacquard weaves on Pointcarré. I frequently identify key trends relating to market level, brand, and application, allowing me to adapt my collections to fit the relevant sector. Working across multi-disciplinary teams has strengthened my communication and presentation skills, preparing me for collaboration within the industry. Additionally, taking part in live briefs has allowed me to react to feedback on design developments from indsutry partners, further enhancing my ability to act on constructive criticism and work with others to achieve stronger outcomes. I have experience managing multiple deadlines simultaneously. This has drastically strengthened my organisation and time-management, as well as prepared me for the fast-paced nature of an in-house design studio.
Achievements & Awards
I have experienced success across multiple live briefs and competitions during my time at university. In January 2025, I achieved 1st prize for my bedroom collection created for Ashley Wilde Group. I was additionally offered a 2-week placement at their head office, and my enthusiasm subsequently led to the company very kindly sponsoring my during my final year at university. In December 2025, I achieved 3rd prize for my S/S27 men's shirting collection for Paul Vogel. From this experience, I was given the opportunity to showcase my designs to the buying team at Aubin. I also achieved 3rd prize in the K2 category of the Bradford Textlile Society competition in 2024. This category was 'The John Smedley LTD Award for a knitted fabric design which shows creative potential'.
